All aboard the UX express – how we can all apply user-centred ideas to make a Drupal to be proud of
Applying user-centred practices is welcomed in Open Source, where the community is empowered to shape what we build to meet peoples’ needs. The advent of Drupal CMS had prompted a UX resurgence, with the emphasis on improving understanding of non-technical site builders and content creators. But how do you integrate user-centred approaches into Drupal in ways that harness creativity, foster innovation and promote inclusion? It’s easier than you might think. Drawing on my experience leading UX issues and initiatives within the Drupal community and my day-job coaching and training colleagues in UX and content design at the University of Edinburgh, I’ll open up my UX toolkit of frameworks, techniques, and tips for the benefit of all to adopt and apply, whatever you do in Drupal.
Reminiscing on my own contributor journey, I’ll explain how I started, applying UX to Drupal’s editorial interface, and share how I progressed to working on many more aspects from navigation to terminology to Drupal CMS to the newest Drupal addition: AI Assistants and Agents.
This session aims to empower you to learn what users want and need from Drupal, view Drupal with a user-centred lens, and UX it like a boss.
